Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Are any stores running the 50% off sale still? TIA!

    1. But mine was not. The sale section was neatly organized but more sparse than usual and no extra % off.

    8. Was just at North Michigan Avenue store in Chicago. Extra 50% off final sale is still going on. Also two racks of redlined merchandise with sign stating redlined items are not eligible for any extra percentage off. Very picked over selection.

    9. Stopped in to pick up online packages and store had 50% off all sale. Ordered Ratti silk midnight floral dress to get 50% off sale and PAs for 50% off sale for new online orders. My pick up included men’s navy fair isle wool hoodie. This is a really cute and nicely made hoodie. Received another cashmere long sleeve tee (fit tts); heather gray is a color that I like. I love these tees & 75% off was 👍🏾. No issue with pilling (own 4) and work great alone or as a layer. Also received wool ruffle sweater in camel. Wool is a good weight and fit is tts for me. Works well with heather acorn pencil skirt and glen plaid cashmere pants. It was a steal for $10. New perfect fit tee in cabernet; my first purchase of this tee and really like it. Cotton seems to be good quality and color is pretty.

  2. I think my store in Towson, MD is in the process of getting the new rollout, or I hope that's the case. I saw one of the wood clothes displays pulled out on the floor and was empty and the shelves looked empty. I walked back to look again since I thought for a minute they were closing.

    1. I hope Towson is not closing. I was told that they were (before Annapolis closed) but I see that they have plans for a pre-V'Day event. They way you describe the store, it sounds like Annapolis looked as they were closing up shop in Jan, but keeping my fingers crossed that the V'Day event is a sign that they are staying open. BUT, on a good note, Tyson, VA (women's) is staying OPEN!!! Yeah, it is off the chopping block! And I understand that in-store promo is 50% off markdown (at least there)

    2. Not really good for my no-shopping-in-February pledge (although it was supposed to be in January), but I can wish shop when I am on that side of town. Congrats on those that survived Day 1, and the first half of Day2!

    3. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Towson is closing. Harbor East or Columbia are the only options now. :(

    4. Oh no! It was my go-to store at lunchtime to browse and was on the same level as Madewell and Anthropologie so it was perfect. That sucks big time. The Ann Taylor store is closing too. I guess Nordstrom will still carry J Crew but I've never gone in there to look.

    5. Wow can't believe they are closing Towson. Hope Harbor East is safe.

  3. No store to go to here any longer and as much as I like jcrew, I’m not risking my life to drive nearly an hour south from here on I95 to the Boca Raton store. The store itself is not a pleasant one and employees are as pretentious as the customers that go there. Have to rely on those of you that have stores to go to, your valuable opinions, and of course my priceless vps.

Well, one day down. I told my husband I was looking at the Live a Little tee and he was like, why are you looking if you don't want to shop? Duh. I guess same reason I kept all the alcohol in my house (even an open bottle of Chardonnay) when I decided to do dry January. (Which, BTW, was so much easier than I thought and although th month ended I didn't rush to have a drink.)

I have a few projects to work on here so I'm going to have to try and motivate. I admit it's really a hobby to stalk popbacks and check sales, even if I do end up returning a lot, it takes up a lot of my time and I know I can be more productive otherwise.

    1. I feel your pain Suz. This morning an item popped back that I have been stalking for a long time. Of course the extra 50% was gone. I put it in my cart thinking maybe I could contact CS and beg for a discount but someone grabbed it. At least it is in my cart so it will be easy to check for popbacks in the future. Going strong on day 2 of no shop February! Haha.

One day down. A co-worker came in yesterday with two pairs of NWT work pants from The Limited for me. Her daughter never wore them and they obviously couldn't return them. My boyfriend was like "Cher, only you could manage to come home with 2 pairs of new pants in your size on Day 1." He was laughing. He appeared befuddled to see me on the site the morning. To be honest, so was I! I was initially irritated at no further reductions on sale merch but I'm now pleased as though the universe and I are on the same timing.

@Suz you hit the nail on the head. I often say that my hobby is stalking, buying, returning, et al. My coworkers and those closest to me know this. It's FUN. I do a lot of work with women and stalking/research is something I do while I'm in the car waiting for them, or sitting next to them before an appointment begins. I'm going to try to use the brief intervals of time to work on creating new assignments, since I like to tailor them to the specific woman's needs but even that will only take so much time and sometimes I just need a break from the seriousness. I also like to look up parenting tips!

I have a few items waiting in store for me and more should be delivered today, so yes, I'll stop in.

      Delete
    3. I have to make a store visit today to do a return, but I’m not worried about being tempted as there’s nothing of interest for me right now. But I do find the habit of online checking/stalking to be hard to break. It’s kind of like following the news for me: what’s going on in retail today?

      Delete
    4. Without the extra 50 off I'm not even tempted. I even decided to return a few other items I bought as extra gifts that I know I don't need. Maybe I'll go today after 4, otherwise I mig even go Sunday when I know the mall will be pretty quiet

      Delete
    5. It will probably be a lot harder to resist the clearance goodies when an extra percent off is back. I picked up 2 orders yesterday 8 items. (hanging head ashamed) Only one was final sale but overall pretty happy with my purchases.

      Delete
    6. I was only shopping for bargains like $11.99 sweaters and sweatshirts. Without the extra 50% off, I am also not budging.
I agree shopgirrrl, I deleted all my shopping bookmarks.

      Delete
    7. I agree that without the 50% off I am not tempted. A few things i missed out on long ago popped back the last day of January but I just wasn't tempted to pull the trigger with no additional % off. I am not even tempted to look as I know the prices aren't good enough to make me bite.

    8. What I decided to do to help me this month is to create. A. "Post-February" wishlist on Pinterest. As I think of my less frigid weather wardrobe needs I'll add to the list, from different vendors, etc, this way when March rolls around I can compare prices and decide which purchases make sense.

      Delete
    9. @Suz I appreciate that thought.

    10. @Suz Has - Stalking popbacks and sales and bringing home your piles of bargains is a lot like hunting and gathering, right? I bet our ancestors had some amazing skills that we inherited.

Still, I'm trying to think of this as a cleanse of sorts. Maybe my hunter/gatherer skills will improve with some rest.

  5. Random things:

No trip to a store this weekend. In fact, probably not a trip to a store for a long time unless it's for returns.

No shop February fail: a pair of winter boots popped back in my size for $42. If they work out, awesome. If not, see previous comment about returns. This will have to be my only slip.

I realized I need to shop my closet so I'm going to try to get into the habit of planning outfits the night before so I'm not rushing in the morning and just grabbing the same things I always do. Seems obvious but I never do this.

And have a good weekend, ladies!

  6. I will be making a trip to the store this weekend to pick up a couple ship-to-store items and to return the Liberty print pajama top that arrived w/o bottoms. From the e-mail I received about the pajama problem, I was under the impression that I could keep the orphan top, but when I called to confirm this I was told that I absolutely MUST return the top even though it's obviously not resellable. So I will. This is actually fine with me as my plan was to purchase a pair of the shorty pajama bottoms that are sold separately to go with the unpaired top. I truly don't need any more shorty pajamas, so this saves me a little money and doesn't interfere with my clothes shopping ban. So win-win, I guess.

I did make a planned non-clothes purchase yesterday from Homegoods: 2 tiny Samsonite folding step stools to help me reach the top shelf of my clothing and linen closets, on clearance for $6 each. My decluttering/organizing project has revealed some serious issues on those top shelves. That is, I can't easily access the shelves so they've become a dumping ground for unwanted crap.

    1. The weirdest thing just happened: I opened a pair of vintage cotton pajamas that I bought a couple of weeks ago when they were on sale. Strangely, this pair is also missing the bottoms! Sounds like J.Crew has a serious quality control issue with their pajamas. This pair appeared to have been opened, as the little paper wrapping strip was missing, so I bet they were a previous return. I hate dealing with this crap.

    2. @Suz Has @Cheritheberry - I will take this as a sign that I don't need any more pajamas.

  8. I am planning a visit tomorrow morning for returns. Not sure if purchases count if I buy after returns and there's no net increase? Haha. I have done a ton of online shopping lately and usually get to my store to see my SA and do returns and try-ons. I don't have a lot on my radar so hoping I can control purchases.

Received my birthday coupon and emailed my VPS to place an order for the Love First tee - I saw the heather grey on Rynetta’s IG today and fell in love. I have piles of tee shirts but figured this one is essentially free so I might as well. Nothing much else of interest has caught my eye. I have rewards and a gift card burning a hole in my pocket and nothing to spend it on!

    - Dorito printed silk/cotton blouse: dotted with tiny ivory cherries. I love it! Has a Band of Outsiders vibe.
    - Okinawa striped silk pants in blk/white
    - Dolly satin camisole...to replace the Carrie? Like the silhouette and hope for more colors

  15. Anyone else receiving speedier shipping? It would always take nearly a week just to get shipping confirmation, and my orders now keep getting sent out faster and faster. Found the Averys to replace the defective pair I had this morning, and they've shipped already. Two orders just placed in the last few days have arrived as well. I received a full set of the Liberty Ros pjs. The print is even better on. Excited about these. One or two JCAs talked about wearing the top out, which I totally would if I hadn't sized up for lounging roominess.

    1. Yes! I ordered the easy pants in tiger print on a popback Wednesday morning and just got a UPS notification that they’re arriving tomorrow. I can’t remember the last time a non-overnight item shipped so fast.
I dropped by Brookfield for a pickup last night and didn’t see anything interesting. One of the Liberty print shirts have disappeared but the Jackie with Liberty trim appeared. Not that excited about it; seems like lazy design to slap a trim on a cotton cardigan. I wanted to see the French girl fit pants in person but they didn’t have any.
Was awake this AM (frankly didn’t sleep at all due to having the plague) so out of habit checked the sale section. It was 1600 at 5 am! I found a popback in my size I desperately wanted and need (a winter coat) but given no +% off and #Noshopfebruary I forced myself to leave it. How is it only the second day of February?!?

      Delete
    2. @eeps, yep, it's February 2!! Not counting the Averys for my purchases since they are a replacement. I'm going to have to be more strict, however. Very happy about the lack of additional discount- I think most of us doing a no-shopping need that help to ease us in!

Those shoes are slated to arrive tomorrow, btw- that is faster than actual overnight shipping in most cases. I'm befuddled!

Hope you enjoy the tiger pants! I had ordered the tiger cardigan but received an empty package in store. Still love the tiger design and colorway. Lastly, sorry you have the plague.

    3. Yes! I placed an order last night for the blush Polartec 1/2 zip (PA'd because the one I previously ordered was too big) and received notification that it has shipped, and will arrive to my US address tomorrow! Typically free shipping takes longer than usual, so I was really pleasantly surprised!!

    4. I got the matte crepe pants with free shipping on Thursday morning and they overnighted them?! I don’t see the reason for it as I clearly didn’t pay for shipping period and they were $12 pants. In other news I really like them and feel like the sizing is true to size.

I received the star print pants today too that I found in the Indy store. I was able to find them after chatting with a VPS on the chat with a stylist feature on the website. She found them quickly and even gave me the phone number for the store. I think this kind of customer service can save this brand. Again the pants were $12 and True to size.

As was discussed a few days ago I buy these kinds of items in anticipation of wearing them to something but don’t have an event planned just quite yet. I find myself paying full price for items that I know I have an event to attend (ie. The fringe dot dress for my daughters baptism last year).

    5. Yes, shipping is super fast, my 2 orders from wed and thurs both arrived yesterday via UPS. Crazy but nice. Also, seems to be a new policy... if you want to price match an item that does not fit you must return 1st. Then you can get a same price for the same item. Used to be, you can order and then return. Little annoying...

    6. @Sarah J - And here I thought I was special, lol. J.Crew shipped out multiple tiny pending orders overnight on Thursday, so I was deluged with little J.Crew envelopes on Friday. My UPS man said, "why didn't they save some money and put everything in one box?" Good question.

    7. Yes, I got 5 packages from 2 orders.... few pajamas: pinstripes skier- very nice and TTS. Pin dot pajama ran small, good fabric. Also picked up 2 silk tank tops(navy and pink) they are great!!! Wearing pink today under cashmere turtleneck... keeps me extra warm.

    8. @Kate, thanks for the pin do pj info. I didn't order them as only usual size was available and didn't want to risk a return. They look so adorable, though! Did you get the washed silk tanks? I passed on the pink, then saw it in store and wish I had grabbed my size.

    9. Hi Sarah.., yes will try to look for size up on the pin dot pijamas. Really like the soft cotton. Yes I got the silk washed tank tops. Seem to like the pink more then navy. The navy is slightly different fabric, softer, more staticky and clingy. I bought the navy size up and will exchange for same size as the pink. I think they are great, not sure if I need anti static spray or something. Lol... overall happy... but I am sure caring for silk will be a job of its own... lol

    10. Kate, I am sure this is obvious to anyone, but just want to share a quick story about J.Crew silk camis. I had a white Carrie and a blue Carrie. Having bought The Laundress delicate wash to hand wash them, I thought I would be efficient and wash them in the same bucket. Well, the blue silk was not colorfast. The white one was promptly ruined. Otherwise, that cleanser is great ;)

  16. Received the funnelneck top in tall. Yeah, it’s a big no. I think the tall has maybe 1-2” more in length and that just isn’t going to cut it. Too bad because I like the artsy style of the top. I did get the liberty Jackie and I love it. Wish I could go on a shopping ban but sadly none of my clothes fit and this baby weight is awfully stubborn after baby #3, even with working out and eating well! I remember that even after I got back to regular shape and size me, a lot of my tops and nearly all dresses didn't work for another year and some because of breastfeeding. Personally I had to put a few things out of sight to avoid feeling denied by those items. I ended up wearing a lot of the same things over and over. That was just last year, but it seems ages ago already. Anyway, just want to say I feel you!

I'm also happy to hear your favourable impressions of the black version. I purchased the chino iteration during the 50% promo, and I think it's really cute, but I haven't worn it yet. For me, it's more suitable for Spring-Fall, and I also wanted to try the black one first for comparison.

Instead, if I do buy something J Crew, I'm trying to stick with older stuff off eBay. So far, I've ordered the old boy shirt in the blue bird print, and I'm eyeing the silk French Hen shirt.

  21. I could use some moral support during my attempt to be a more disciplined shopper. I have a terrible tendency to buy duplicates. I buy something, and love it. That should be enough. But then I find the same item heavily discounted and then I have a hard time not buying a back-up. Today, it was the lace up suede sandals. Even without an additional promo code, they popped back in my size and were $50 Canadian. I rationalized the purchase by telling myself that it is free shipping today and they are not final sale so if sanity returns I can return them. So I bought them.

This is not the first time. Some regular JCA readers may remember that I am the owner of duplicate star print pants - yes, two pairs of star print pants (which looks ridiculous and embarrassing when I see it in print) - but in my defence, they were $16.99 a pair.

    Help?!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I just doubled up on an icon trench since they are changing the design. Is the fact that you are not alone any consolation at all? I actually think if you know you love and will wear something it's pretty disciplined shopping indeed - it's much better than buying something that will be left untouched in your closet!

      Delete
    2. Also, you just gave me the push to pull the trigger on a popback of something I already own, which I've let sit in my cart for hours - the merino turtleneck with side slits (albeit in a different color).

      Delete
    3. @Toronto Modern - I can identify completely. This is something I really struggle with. As well as buying exact duplicates, I have a serious issue with finding a garment or shoe I really like, then going back and buying it in multiple colors. Unfortunately it seems that having duplicates sometimes tends to dilute the specialness I felt with the original.

Judith Rasband (Conselle Institute of Image Management) has some wonderful (albeit quite dated) videos and books on wardrobe planning and building coordinating clusters. Her advice is to always select individual items that are distinctly different, with no two pieces alike. She feels that having similar pieces limits the versatility of your wardrobe. I also like that she builds her wardrobe clusters by starting with a patterned piece, like a scarf or blouse, that contains several colors you like, that are flattering to you and look good together. I think this helps to avoid acquiring garments that are pretty, but in unflattering colors that go with nothing, something I've been known to do. I've been thinking it might be a good idea for me to organize my clothes in clusters again. The stylebook app would be ideal for that.

      Delete
    4. I do this w J Crew especially, because I have learned over the years that my most beloved wardrobe staples get discontinued or significantly changed ... Schoolboy Blazers, Ceces, Matchsticks, etc., not to mention favorite prints.

My personal rule is that if it is a high quality staple item in your wardrobe, a duplicate here and there is a good strategy. For trendier cuts/ styles (Star Pants?) I refrain.

    5. @TorontoModern Like you, I find it hard to pass up a great deal. I don’t buy duplicates, but I’m very guilty of the “one in every colour” mindset, especially when prices are bargain basement. With regard to duplicates, I have so many things in my closet that it’s rare for anything to actually wear out, and since shoes don’t need to be laundered, they’re always available to wear. I’d rather have 2 pairs of black sandals that are slightly different so that I can create different looks rather than 2 identical pairs.

    6. I tend to purchase duplicates more and more these days in the face of declining quality and store closings. I do better with exact duplicates; if I have multiple colors, say, I'll always gravitate toward my favorite anyway, so I'm better off just buying a backup. I'm down to my last pair of the original signature leggings and wish I'd stocked up more before JC changed to such flimsy fabric!

  22. I stopped in early this morning - my SA comes in early on Saturdays so it's nice to shop when the mall/store is empty. I decided the sleeves were too long on my 4 Tall lodge coat and lucky me found a regular size 4 in my store to swap - when I tried it before I found it snug but the one I had on today was perfect so that was a lucky swap.

I did some try-ons - I am really not loving a lot right now which is a good thing. I did post some photos on my Instagram instastory (@fablifeforever). I didn't love the button front vintage straight jeans as much as I thought I would so it was easy to pass on these. I also liked the supersoft open cardigan, but will wait for sale.

I made quite a few returns, got price adjustments and in full disclosure to stay accountable, I did make a few purchases, with no net increase after my returns so I guess that's a small win. I am going to refrain from going to the store for the month, I think that will help me as I go in and try a ton of stuff on and then feel bad leaving empty handed. I bought the new black wrap dress which I loved, grey merino slit turtleneck, black tulip sleeve blouse and a pair of earrings (not sure what they're called but they have a black fabric back with gold stones and beads and some tinsel/bead tassel at the bottom. They're super cute. My store was 50% off sale and the sale section was fairly full, a lot of random items some of which I'm sure were returns. I did see a size small in the lavender wrap coat that's marked down to $320 before the 50% off (Walden Galleria in Buffalo).

  23. As part of no shop February I am trying to clean out my closet. I think it will help me to see how much I already have and reinforce that I need nothing. I did cardigans this morning. I had quite a few that only matched one item in my closet. Those have been weeded out. I feel better now and hope to keep weeding out things that haven't been touched yet all winter.

    1. @JessF - funny you should mention a closet clean out - I just did a first purge yesterday! Good luck with your endeavor. I know how difficult it can be to let go (here’s looking at you purple fossil top 🙈)

    2. I think we all have those few items that we can't part with for whatever reason. I still have a NWT Anthropologie Marposa Lace dress in my closet that I refuse to give up. I also went through my pile of long sleeve painter tees which included every color of the rainbow. Weeded out colors I don't normally wear and one that aren't good for my skin tone. It is not easy but it does feel good to see empty space. Must keep powering through. The problem is now I need to motivate to list things to sell. I will donote some but since I have so much my items are very lightly worn and I like to sell to try to recoup some money.

  24. The Tailored Perfect Shirt in Liberty Sarah Floral arrived...it's tight through the bust in my usual Perfect Shirt size, but fits nicely everywhere else. Not sure if I want to re-order in a size up as I don't want it to be baggy in the sleeves or hips and I'm still waiting on the Jackie cardigan with the same print to arrive..

  25. I am so annoyed! I sent an email to CS asking for a price adjustment on two items, and was told that they could not apply the promo because it was "for final sale items only." But, of course, like everything else I've purchased in the last couple of weeks, my items WERE final sale. But now, when I visit the website, almost everything that I purchased that was once final sale ... is now .. NOT FINAL SALE. Quit the games, J.Crew! This is so frustrating.

  26. The new promo XOXO with 30% Off select full price items is good through 2/12. They are making it a little easier for those that are on a Feb. shopping ban.

    1. Do I just buy the shoes without promo? *sigh* I don't want to ask for a PA, as I find it ever-so-slightly uncomfortable. I did receive a grant for the Liberty pj set, but it came with a caveat that feels a tad like admonishment. Ok, Mom, I won't ask again.

  27. I’m on a shopping ban. Exceptions apply. Popbacks stalked for more than 12 months, eBay finds in my size or sizes with pics of labels, and certain specific collectors’ items are excluded from all proscriptions.

  28. I am not on a shopping ban (thought I love the idea), but I have been cutting back over the last year and doing a lot more shopping my closet and a lot less sticking my closet. I restrained myself during the 50% promos and only bought a few things that I'm really happy with and I know I will wear a lot. Shopping ban or not though, there isn't much at J. Crew that seems inspiring or special in any way. I feel the same way about most retailers right now. I'm glad there is nothing tempting me, but it is unfortunate that there is such little imagination in the clothing right now. I hope by March there will be something nice to covet. For now I'm saving my $ with the rest of you.

  29. I sat down yesterday and figured out that with a few days off this month, I have 16 work days to dress for. I still use Polyvore to plan outfits and don't have an iPhone to get the Stylebook app. I started putting outfits together and it was a nice reminder that I really don't NEED anything. I briefly became fixated on wanting button downs (French blue and blue stripe) and I was thisclose to ordering them online yesterday but instead added them to my wishlist and I will revisit in March. I still came up with fifteen work outfit combinations and that's not factoring in my Rent the Runway unlimited subscription. Anyway, my point being that sitting down to plan outfits was a good reminder what I do have in my closet.

    1. Anne, I find it feels really good knowing what I own! It's like having dominion over my wardrobe rather than the other way around. And just the wondering if I'll find something to wear...that is tiring. Nice to hear how you assessed everything and came up with so many options. I can't get the stylebook app, either, but decluttering my wardrobe has helped me get a better handle on what I'm using and what new purchases make the most sense.

I don't have the desire (willpower?) for an all-out ban. Like wff and shoppingcelle, there are exceptions for special items.

I needed more motivation than total silence to get me to tidy up my clothing yesterday (doesn't take more than a few minutes anymore, which I never would have believed), so I listened to the audio version of The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up on YouTube. I learned that Marie Kondo instructs us to begin the revolutionary ordering of our spaces with clothing because it is one of the easiest and has the least rare stuff. That gave me a nice little laugh.

    2. I actually outfit planned for 2 weeks (which is all of my work days in February since I have 1 more week of mat leave and 1 week of vacation) and it was eye opening! When I thought I literally had nothing to wear, I had 10 solid outfits that only used up a couple of skirts twice (bottoms being my most scarce item). Turns out I don’t need anything!

  30. I'm continuing with Pinterest to come up with new ways to wear my old (or not old) items.
I'm also cleaning out and organizing closets which makes it really unpleasant to even consider more stuff. (Mostly my kids' stuff but some of my old stuff too.)

Oddly my Pinterest wish list has only one item on it so far and it's something I don't have (white sneakers, lol!) I would really like to find a nice pair of wide leg crops that don't feel like TOO much fabric, but most of what I see isn't quite right. Since I've bought and either returned, sold or given away (to my eldest) many variations of these pants, I'm hesitant so the research will give me something to focus on while I'm not shopping.

    1. And like WFF and Shoppingcelle, if there was something I really HAD to have that I've been searching for I'd break my ban, but I'm trying to be much more conscientious.

    2. Suz, how does that work on Pinterest for you? Do you put all your clothing on one board or many?

      Delete
    3. Well a few years ago I made a "style inspirations" (and additional long copy...) board for various looks I liked, purchases I made, etc. A few weeks ago I realized I could add different sections so I broke it down into topics that work for my style: denim, black pants (skinny to wide), leather pants, mini skirts, playful proportions and whimsical mixes, details: ruffles, metallic, tulle and faux fur, toppers: jackets and blazers, foolproof formula, etc.
Feel free to follow me to see how I broke it up. Obviously some cross categories but I'd just go by what stood out in the pic for me.

Oddly, I don't have shoes but shoes are the one area I tend to be a little less restrained, I think. I tend to follow more of a formula with clothing.

    4. Oddly enough a pair of pants I bought anndreturned last May (I checked insta) is on eBay NWT for $21 (with shipping). I'm watching them. It's not an auction so I can't offer less (though I've only bought one other JCrew item from eBay so I'm not an expert.)

    5. @Suz Has - I'm doing the same. My Sunday at home outfit: a pair of much loved Gap dark wash real straight jeans (2012ish? - I had numerous duplicates but most have bit the dust), J.Crew bright red long sleeve perfect fit tee (holiday 2011), a J.Crew navy blue cashmere zip hoodie (fall 2007) and my beloved but well worn tan suede Ugg Mandie slippers (purchased January 2015 from 6pm for only $37).

And, yes, like others I would be willing to break my self imposed ban for the right item. For instance, a good sale price on J.Crew long sleeve tees so I can finally pick up the white tees I genuinely need. I refuse to pay the ridiculous full price of $32.50.

Yesterday I reorganized my sweatshirts, waffle henleys (LLBean - so comfy), sweatpants, workout leggings plus my large collection of Lands' End starfish pants (I highly recommend the slim fit version). I had them scattered everywhere: hanging in my closet, hanging in the laundry room, folded in drawers, folded on closet shelves...now they're all neatly folded KonMari style in the tiny drawers of my guest room bedside tables. I'm amazed that everything fit! Having them all organized together makes it so much easier to add them to my Stylebook app, too. Next up: t-shirts.

  31. I am in search of my personal unicorn ... perfect work pants ... and all shopping restrictions are off if I find them. Not cropped. Not skin tight. Not wide leg. Not high-waisted - still don’t understand the popularity of that style as it is flattering to so few body types.

What are your perfect work pants? At J Crew, Cameron, Maddie, Edie are all off for me so I’m looking elsewhere. I can’t believe how difficult this is so any suggestions appreciated!

    1. Banana Republic is my go to for work pants. J.Crew pants have never been the perfect fit on me. None of the new Crew ones worked (Edie, etc). My favorites lately are the Ryan pant in lightweight wool at BR. They are a straight, slimmer leg and I personally like them ankle length so I order the short which is 28" inseam vs 30" for the regular length. They're billed as slim straight. I also have an like the Avery but these are ankle length. The Logan is their trouser and I have those for when I do a full suit and want to be a little dressier but I personally don't love the trouser leg. Their suiting pants are lined too which I appreciate.

    2. I second the Ryan fit at Banana. I think I have about 4 pairs. I also wear the Sloan fit, but I size up so they aren't as tight.

    3. BR does have some of the best work pants. I don’t discriminate against wool blends when it comes to those.

    6. White House Black Market is my go-to for basic work pants. In fact, that's the only thing I buy there. Decent stretch fabric, multiple fits (slim, curvy, petite, etc), and mostly office-appropriate mid-rises.

    7. @ruffles, I'm always on the same work pant quest as you. I bought a couple of work pants at Talbots in the summer (full length trouser and full length straight) and like them a lot although one pant leg hem totally unravelled after a few wears which made me mad. I tried a few BR pants in the past without luck but will check them out again after the good reviews from above.

    8. I'm having luck at Loft and Ann Taylor since their petite inseams are actually petite and I don't need to have them hemmed. The Devin fit at Ann Taylor and the Marisa fit at Loft.

      Delete
    9. I also like BR's Sloan fit, but I have yet to find a good "cigarette pant" look for work, which is my ideal since I am petite and a full leg sometimes makes me look wider at the hips than I would like.
I know this is not exactly what you're asking but I have worked around the work-pants-fit dilemma by just not wearing them. Not that I go pantsless at work, but I find it easier to wear dresses more often. I have 1 pair of work pants in black, navy, gray and maroon each. None of them are my ideal fit but they fit and because I don't wear them often they are in very good shape. Dresses are easier because warm-weather dresses can be made cold-weather with a blazer, cardigan or turtleneck under. You can also wear a nice sweater (cashmere, etc) over a dress to look like separates. I live in NYC and I wear Uniqlo heat-tech tights and they're as warm as pants. During bomb cyclones/blizzards, I wear heat-tech tights under wool leggings and thick socks which I remove when I get to the office. I go through 1 pair of tights per season - they cost $10 and come in lots of colors. For me it works out better than buying and failing to find work pants that fit!

  32. @shoppingcelle My thoughts exactly;)

  33. Well...I found a pair of pants I was thinking about since last spring for about half the lowest price I've seen them for at J.crew so I went for it.

    In my defense:
-I know they look good because I already tried them,
-personally I think they're more flattering than Kamm pants at $395 (not that I'd spend that much) or the Everlane variation for $68
-I sold a bunch of items on Poshmark this week

Still I feel a little guilty, but if I didn't buy them I think I'd regret it due to all of the above.

    4. We all have our own reasons for doing NoShopFebruary. If it’s something you’ve been thinking about for a long time but holding off on due to price, I think it’s a good purchase as it wouldn’t make sense to hold off now and then spend twice as much on them a month from now.
